CBC Program: "Cheap Justice"
Darell Wells was charged with Drive While Under Suspension. He was unaware that he had an outstanding $96.00 fine owing and that his license had been suspended as a result. He appeared before a Justice of the Peace and pleaded guilty to the offence. To his horror, he was sentenced to 15 days in jail. It was his first offence.
We took issue with Darell’s plight and immediately launched an appeal. Darell’s story was showcased on the CBC’s legal affairs program ‘Disclosure’. Madam Justice Lane’s scathing review of the proceedings along with the hard hitting ‘Disclosure’ episode ‘Cheap Justice’ can be viewed in our ‘Case Studies’ section.
